British Columbia is home base for HeatingConsulting.ca and for most of our published heating work. It is also the province where a single program design fits least well, because the coast and the Interior run on different heating calendars. A program for a Burnaby boiler shop and one for a Kelowna or Prince George furnace company may share every checkpoint but start months apart.
The BC heating market
As of October 2026, Statistics Canada reports that in 2023 about 42% of BC households relied on natural gas for primary heat and about 36% on electricity. That near balance is unusual in Canada and shapes demand: many BC heating companies sell gas furnaces and boilers alongside heat pumps, often to the same household.
The buyers vary sharply by region. Metro Vancouver and Victoria mix detached houses with dense strata buildings where the decision-maker may be a property manager rather than an owner. The Interior and North have more detached homes on longer, colder seasons, where a no-heat call is genuinely urgent.
Season and climate
The southwest coast has mild, wet winters. There is rarely one dramatic first cold week; demand builds through the fall and stays high well into spring. Interior and northern communities have much longer and colder heating seasons, closer to the Prairie pattern.
What that means for a program:
- Coastal companies can start a 90-day heating program almost any month from January to June. The summer lull is real but shorter, especially for companies that also sell heat pumps for cooling.
- Interior and northern companies should aim for a day 1 no later than April, so fixes are live before the fall.
Regulators to know
Technical Safety BC oversees gas, electrical, boiler and refrigeration safety in the province and licenses gas and electrical contractors. Your licensed staff will know it well. We link it here so the program's marketing fixes never make claims that cut across what your licences allow, but we give no compliance advice. Questions go to Technical Safety BC directly.
Programs that affect demand
As of October 2026, the CleanBC Better Homes Energy Savings Program offers income-based heat pump rebates, and its rules changed for invoices dated on or after July 6, 2026. Some rebates were removed and eligibility narrowed for certain home and fuel types. Confirm current details with the administrator before using them in any marketing.
Two practical consequences for a BC program:
- Website and ad copy go out of date fast. Rebate claims on service pages are one of the first things we check in the day-30 diagnosis.
- Office scripts matter. Callers often ask about rebates before they ask about equipment. The office needs a short, accurate answer and a pointer to the official page, which is part of booked-call recovery.
A note on strata and property managers
In BC's dense cities, a growing share of heating decisions are made by strata councils and property managers rather than individual owners. Those buyers ask for maintenance schedules, written quotes and insurance details, and they decide slowly. A program that treats every caller like a homeowner with no heat will mishandle them. Splitting the baseline into residential and strata or managed-property work often shows two very different booking rates.
How a program runs for a BC company
A typical BC program starts with the phone and the Business Profile, then moves to service-line pages split by fuel and equipment: gas furnaces, boilers, heat pumps and combinations. Results from our HVAC work here include GasBoilers.ca, a gas-boiler division built for CANRO Heat that serves 26+ BC communities, and BCWide.ca, which reached 3× leads in 90 days.
On the monthly retainer, BC companies tend to use the spring reviews for heat-pump and cooling demand and the August review for fall readiness. If you work across both coast and Interior, the scorecard is often split by region so one area's weather does not hide the other's trend.
We are not a contractor in BC or anywhere else, and never install or service equipment. For other provinces, see the areas page.
Frequently asked questions
When should a Lower Mainland heating company start a 90-day program?
Coastal winters are gentler and longer, so there is more flexibility than on the Prairies. A day 1 between January and June generally lands day 90 before the fall pickup.
Do you meet BC clients in Vancouver?
We are based in Vancouver, and BC companies can consult with us in person or by video call, or by phone, text and email, just as they do elsewhere.
Can you tell my customers whether they qualify for a BC rebate?
No. We help you describe programs accurately and link the official pages. Eligibility is decided by the program administrator, and customers should confirm there.
