Heating consulting programs for Quebec companies

Quebec heats mainly with electricity, so heat pumps and electric systems lead the market. Any program here must also respect French-language rules for commercial advertising and websites.

Written by Ali Sedighi, MBALast updated:

Among the provinces, Quebec leans on electric heat the most. As of October 2026, Statistics Canada reports that in 2023 about 70% of Quebec households used electricity for primary heat, with natural gas at about 5% and wood at about 4%. A Quebec heating company is therefore, in most cases, an electric heating and heat pump company first, with gas, oil conversion and hydronic work as smaller lines.

The Quebec heating market

Montréal, Laval, Longueuil, Québec City and Gatineau account for much of the population, with Sherbrooke, Lévis and Saguenay as substantial regional markets. Demand centres on heat pumps, electric furnaces and baseboard replacement, and on conversions away from oil and propane.

Two features make the market different from the rest of Canada. First, Hydro-Québec's own grant program sits in the middle of many heat-pump purchases, so its requirements shape the sales conversation. Second, all customer-facing marketing works within French-language rules, which affects every website, ad and Business Profile change a program might recommend.

Season and climate

Away from the St. Lawrence lowlands especially, a Quebec winter is long, cold and snowy, and the heating season runs for many months. Heat pumps also make summer cooling part of the business, which shortens the quiet season.

For a 90-day heating program, a day 1 between February and May works for most companies. Leave extra room in the fix phase if pages or ads need French versions, because writing and reviewing them takes longer than changing English copy.

Regulators and rules to know

Contractor licensing in Quebec runs through the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ), which also oversees building safety in areas such as gas, plumbing and pressure equipment. Companies and their marketing should show the correct RBQ licence; we do not advise on licence classes or compliance.

The Office québécois de la langue française oversees the Charter of the French Language. Under it, French must be clearly predominant in commercial advertising and public signage, and websites aimed at Quebec customers must be available in French. We account for this in any marketing recommendation but give no legal advice; questions go to the OQLF.

Programs that affect demand

As of October 2026, Hydro-Québec's LogisVert program offers grants of up to $6,700 for eligible heat pumps, along with support for other efficient equipment. Confirm current amounts and conditions with Hydro-Québec before using them in marketing.

For a heating company, LogisVert is central to the heat-pump sales conversation. An office that can explain the steps clearly and point to the official page gives the caller a reason to stay on the line, while a website that quotes a stale amount creates friction on the first call.

A worked Quebec example

Take a Laval company whose English-language website ranks reasonably well but whose French pages are thin translations with no service detail. Its call tracking shows that most calls come from French-language searches, yet those visitors call at half the rate of English visitors.

Rewriting the French service pages properly, rather than translating word for word, is the single largest fix on the list. The baseline measures calls from French pages per 100 visits; the day-90 report compares the same figure. In a market where French must be predominant in commercial content anyway, that work does two jobs at once. The example is illustrative.

How a program runs for a Quebec company

A typical Quebec program begins with the day-1 baseline split by heat-pump, electric and conversion work, then checks the French-language state of the website, Business Profile and ads. The fix list commonly combines booked-call recovery with French service pages for the lines that are underperforming.

On the monthly retainer, Quebec owners often track heat-pump enquiries through spring and summer, when cooling demand and program timing overlap, and replacement close rate through the winter.

We are not a contractor in Quebec and never install, repair or inspect equipment. Neighbouring regions: Ontario and New Brunswick.

Frequently asked questions

Is the program delivered in French?

The consulting is delivered in English. Any marketing recommendation for Quebec customers assumes French-language content, and we flag where your current website or ads may fall short of the rules.

Can you write our French website copy?

If marketing execution is part of the engagement, French content is scoped and quoted in writing. We do not give legal advice on language compliance; the OQLF is the authority.

When should a Quebec heating company start a program?

Between February and May for most companies, leaving extra time in the fix phase if French-language pages need to be written or corrected.
